Midi mapping in Ableton Live page 2

Different uses & tips

As you've probably guessed using midi mapping with ableton is a great way to add extra performance value to a laptop live set. You could use it to launch all the scenes, change the tempo or control the FX sends in realtime. It also helps if your using live as a sampler in a band or when djing then midi mapping means you can use a midi controller to trigger the samples and nudge the tempo up and down if your band goes out of time.

Midi mapping the crossfader is another little trick. First i assign the three crossfader positions, left, center and middle, to three keys on my keyboard. I then assign all the drums on the left and bass or melody's on the right. Then i hold down the left key and tap the right. This creates a kind of cutting sound between the drums and melody's etc, speed up the cuts and it creates more and more of a build up. Lots of fun. Another useful tip is to have all your drums on the left then your melody's and sounds etc on the right, that way you can drop the beats in and out quickly. Experiment and have fun.

Well i hope this tutorial has helped you and as always if you have any questions please contact me or start a topic in the forum and I will help you the best i can. It's also worth checking out the related articles or tutorials below as they all tie in together

We take a look at the Akai MPK25 midi controller, the smallest of the Akai MPK series of midi controller/keyboard/MPC drum pad/trigger. This is a feature packed controller and promises a lot but does it live up to it's creators repretation?
