A little while back I covered a track by a uk artist called Neko Neko. The track was a remix of Time by Pink Floyd from Dark side of the moon, with promise that the rest of the album was going to come out soon. Well I’ve been sleeping and the album, titled Orange side of the moon, has been released and is doing the rounds on the net. I have to say it’s grown on me enough to post it up here, which I usually don’t do.
Worth checking out if you like hip hop/trip hop stuff with a tip towards old school and 90′s hip hop and people like DJ shadow or Four tet.
Stumbled across this today and I don’t usually post music on here. Anyway a musician from the uk called Neko Neko has remixed Pink floyds Dark side of the moon. So far Neko Neko has only released one song, Time, with apparently more to come. Theres little info about it apart from ‘ it was done for fun and it was very fun’ with no mention of how it was created or how legal it is.
Judging from this first song the whole thing could sound ok without being sacrilege to Pink Floyd, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Today i heard the very sad news that Les Paul had died aged 94. Les Paul was a true music hero and contributed so much within his life time. For those of who don’t know Les Paul developed the solid body electric guitar, had a string of hits, was a accomplished jazz guitarist and developed multi track recording. Can you imagine what music would be like if electric guitars and multi track recording didn’t exist.
Les Paul stayed very active until he last days and performed every week at a New york jazz club in times square right up until months before his death. Last time i was in New York i wanted to see him play so badly but wasn’t allowed in (was under age). I knew then that it might have been my only chance and I’m truly gutted now. You might be thinking how is Les Paul is related to the subject of this blog. Well Les was a futurist, pioneer and pushed the boundaries with the guitar and multi track recording, pushing technology to the max at the time. Something most laptop performers and modern musicians are trying to do now.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Thank you Les for everything you have given to music, you will not be forgotten.
New bleepy goodness from Luke Vibert. We hear you is his latest release on planet mu records. Availible on CD and 3×12″ vinyls. Listen and buy here. Respect to Luke who has always flown the flag high for electronic music and laptop performing.
American experimental rock band Battles play Atlas on Later with Jools Holland. Love them or hate them Battles are kind of interesting to watch from a live performance point of view. Check out what they do with the samplers and laptops. I was very surprised to see a band so experimental on Jools Holland. Anyway enjoy & merry christmas & happy new year.
